Pakenham Beatty, Charles Beatty, John Beatty, Robert Beatty, Anne Beatty, widow, Alexander Burrows and Martha his wife; and John Beatty and Catherine Beatty, minors, by their guardian Charles Beatty; and Robert McCally and Anne his wife, Defts.
Interrogations on behalf of Plt. inter alia: How long have you known John Beatty late of Springtown, Co. Longford, gent., dec'd? What goods did he die possessed of and their value, and what leases had he in Co. Longford and Westmeath? Were you present when any of the Defts offered Plt a sum of money on account of his marriage portion with his late wife? Did you know Isabella Beatty, one of the daughters of said John Beatty, dec'd; when did she die; did she make a will; and who has become possessed of her effects? Entered 2 March 1743.
Interrogations on behalf of Defts: inter alia: Do you know the lands of Springtown and Kellyna, Co. Longford and the lands of Trownragh and Loughanstown, Co. Westmeath, and what is their yearly value? Did you know Ann Beatty, daughter of said John Beatty, dec'd and late wife to Plt. John Brock; how long did you know her; did she live with or was she entertained by any person and by whom for any time, and for how long after the death of her father and before she married Plt.; and what is said entertainment worth? Entered 7 July 1744.
Depositions taken on behalf of Plt. at the house of Laurence Kilinan in Abbylarah, Co. Longford, innkeeper, on 22 Oct. 1744, by commission out of the Court of Exchequer directed to Anthony Brown, Anthony Harrison, John Johnston, and Hugh Kerr.
James Speight of Riverstown, Co. Westmeath, gent., aged 44, knows Plt. for 7 or 8 years; and Defts Pakenham, Charles and Robert Beatty for 8 or 10 years; knows Ann Beatty, widow, and Martha Burrows for 10 or 12 years. Knew John Beatty late of Springtown, Co. Longford, gent. dec'd, who was possessed of the lands of Tromra and Loughanstown, Co. Westmeath under a lease from Edward Pakenham, Esq., dec'd, and Margaret Pakenham widow of said Edward Pakenham who was guardian to Thomas Pakenham, son of Edward. Has heard that one William Halfpenny was sent to gaol by deft Pakenham Beatty on account of arrears of rent due by him out of the lands of Tromro to sd John Beatty dec'd, but that he has since been released. Hannah Rork, wife to James(?) Rourke of Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath, farmer, aged 40, knows the Plt. for 4 years. Knows Defts Pakenham, Charles and Robert Beatty and Martha Burrows 3 years. Knew Isabella Beatty who died about 3 years ago at Pakenham Hall, Co. Westmeath; was present when she died and Deft. Charles Beatty possessed himself of her wearing apparel which were very good, handsome and considerable, also some other effects and money that Isabella died possessed of.
