“A Memorial of a Deed bearing Date the Eighth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty two between James Beaty of Newry in the county of Down Merchant of the one part and Margaret Graham of Clownish in the county of Monaghan spinster and Richard Cross of Conticarty in the county of Armagh, James Graham of Mullaghbrady in the Co. of Fermanagh gentleman of the other part. Reciting a Marriage agreed on between the said James Beatty and Margaret Graham in consideration whereof the said James Beatty agreed with the said Margaret Graham and said Richard Cross and James Graham as trustees for the said Margaret Graham that in case said Margaret Graham dye (sic) before the said James leaving no issue by him it shall be lawfull for said Margaret Graham notwithstanding her coverture to make her will & thereby devise Seven hundred pounds sterling to such of her relations as she shall think proper and if she neglects to make such devise then the same shall descend to her nearest relations and if said James Beaty dye before the said Margaret leaving no issue by her the said James Beaty thereby did covenant and agree that she the sd Margaret shall have hold possess and enjoy a full moiety of all the profit rents of his Freeholds in Newry aforesaid during her life together with a moiety of all the goods and chattels the said James Beatty dyed possessed of after his lawful debts are first paid and satisfied to be disposed of at her pleasure…” Witnesses: William Cross of Newry Co.
