[The copy of this deed is very dark and hard to read—LTB] October 14, 1747. Between John Beatty of the town and County of Monaghan and William McCarroll of Castleshane, Co. Monaghan. John Usher, late of the City of Dublin, by a deed dated July 16, 17?4 demised to Thomas Ellis, late of the town & Co. of Monaghan, land “adjoining to the Church yard of the s’d town of Monaghan fronting the Marketplace in the said town” & “so much of the garden of the castle in the said town as was then let out unto the said Thomas Ellis for and during the term of the natural life and lives of him the sd Thos Ellis, his son Robert Ellis & Christ’r Usher eldest son to the s’d John Usher…that s’d Thos Ellis is since dead by whose death the rights interests of & in ye s’d [land]…is descended and come to the said Edward Ellis his son & heir…” Edward Ellis, by deed dated September 15, 1737, demised the lands to John Beatty. John Beatty in turn transferred the land to William McCarroll. Deed witnessed by Ralph Semple of the Town & Co. of Monaghan, gent. & John Nesbit of the same, Innkeeper.
