Exchequer Bill:

     John Gallagher, Plt.          Jane Armstrong alias Betty, Mary Armstrong alias Betty, and Thady Roddy, Defts.     Bill 17 Feb 1699[-1700]          No answer
     Plaintiff, John Gallagher of co. Leitrim, gent., sheweth. Whereas Mary Armstrong and Jenet Armstrong both of co. Leitrim, widows, being in 1693 seized in their demesne as of fee of an estate of inheritance of the 4 cartrons of Aghacashell and the 2 cartrons of Gortnevane and Aghapull, did by writing demise said premises to Tady Roddy of Carrickslavane, co. Leytrim, Esq. for the term of 21 years from 1 May 1694 at £10 rent for the first 7 years, £20 next 7 years, and £30 the rest of sd term, which writing is dated 19 January 1693 [-4] and Tady Roddy entered upon the premises and was possessed thereof. That Tady Roddy by writing dated 28 May 1694 demised to Plt. said 2 cartrons of Gortnevane and Aghapull for 7 years from 1 May 1694 at £4-0-4 rent, and agreed that a lease should be executed to Plt. That Plt. entered upon said lands of Gortnevane and Aghapull and paid his rent until Mich’s [Michaelmas] 1698 when Plt. tendering his rent to Roddy he refused it saying he had surrendered his lease to Mary and Jenet Armstrong, but assured Plt. if he would take his rent to them they would give Plt. a lease of the lands and Plt. accordingly did so. That in February or March following Plt. or is tenants not owing a farthing of rent for said 2 cartrons of Gortnevane and Aghapull were distrained for quit rent (which it had been covenanted in the agreement between Plt. and Roddy was to be excepted). That thereupon Plt. acquainted Roddy and the Armstrongs that he had been distrained for and had to pay quit rent and had to give bonds to secure payment of same. That soon after Easter 1699 Plt’s tenants were again distrained for quit rent and Plt. has now paid over and above his agreed rent the sum of £11-7/- for quit rent since entering upon the premises. Now said Tady Roddy combining with the Armstrongs says he is not concerned in the matter. Prays that writs may be gtd agst said Jane Armstrong alias Betty, Mary Armstrong alias Betty and Taddy Roddy to answer in the premises. Entered 17 February 1699 [-1700].

That Arthur Beatty of Farranseesr aforesaid father to Plt. being seized of the lands of Faranseer aforesaid for three lives at the rent of £24, and also of a lease of 20 years to come of the lands of Glencorcan (or Concorkan), co. Cavan, at £12 rent, and of a lease for 10 years to care of the lands of Annagh, co. Cavan at £11-11/- rent, and Plt. being the oldest son of Arthur
